About Daniel

I have always been fascinated with math. I remember calculating change faster than the cashier at a McDonalds for the first time at age 7. I enjoy teaching others and reaching students that other tutors can't. I tutored students taking calculus while I was 19 years old. Although I didn't pursue a full-time career in math, it is something I have a deep passion for. I believe that an effective tutor should have a variety of experience in different areas in order to relate to all kinds of people. Everyone brings a different set of experiences with them, and I strive to teach in a way that makes a difficult subject actually seem somewhat enjoyable, even if your sole purpose is to check a box and say you completed math.

The highest level of education I've completed is a Doctorate degree in Physical therapy. Before I decided on physical therapy, I wasn't certain which career path I wanted to pursue. I decided to get a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry simply because I knew it would help develop my abstract and critical thinking skills. I am a well-rounded and effective teacher. As a physical therapist in a hospital, I work with people and teach them how to walk again. It requires a massive amount of creativity, patience, kindness, and dedication. I apply all of this to my teaching, whether it is in the hospital or with tutoring.

I was asked to be a tutor right out of high school for a student struggling in calculus. She had a D in the class, and I taught them 4 lessons in one night to prepare for an exam they were behind on. They got a B+ in the exam, and I have been tutoring intermittently ever since.

As a physical therapist, I do a vastly different kind of teaching. I teach concepts and how to walk after people have a stroke or traumatic brain injury. This has drastically shaped my teaching style and how to connect with any type of learner

I was a calculus tutor at age 19. I've completed as far as Calculus II while in college. I have a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry which required Physical Chemistry (calculus-based chemistry), Analytical Chemistry (General chemistry concepts with high levels of precision), and Physics.

I have a doctorate degree in Physical therapy and work in a an inpatient rehabilitation setting. This involves educating patients and their families on complex concepts in easy-to-understand ways, as well as incorporating advanced education and creativity to teach patients how to walk after a life-changing event like a stroke. I do all of this while maintaining a lighthearted and positive relationship with every patient and their family.

I ask students their general background and overall interest in math. Are they a casual learner? Do they have little interest in math and just need to pass? Have they had other tutors who struggled to teach them?

After establishing a starting point, I set realistic goals based on their needs and learning style. With each lesson, I learn more about the student and they learn more about me, and we meet in the middle to move forward so they can learn with a reliable and kind teacher guiding them every step of the way.

I have worked with students from middle school through high school in Algebra, Geometry, and Calculus. They have typically been students who had interests far outside of math, and needed to pass their classes to get their diploma. I really enjoy teaching those kinds of students because I can understand the lack of interest and how impossible it can feel when you are not pre-programmed for math. I enjoy helping them along and retain the information even after they complete the course.

It's extremely important to have a good working relationship with your instructor. You need someone who is willing to understand you and teach you in ways that are approachable. If you feel intimidated or otherwise dreading each lesson, you may need to find a different tutor. If you can enter a session and know that you will learn something, even if it's a subject you aren't particularly interested in, then you have found the right tutor.

I had a student who had struggled through algebra for the entire school year and only had 4 weeks to make up all of the work for his final semester of high school. He had a couple tutors along the way, but he still felt like he didn't understand any of the concepts. I worked with him 1-2 times per week for 1-2 hours/session, and he was able to pull his grade up high enough to get his Core-40 diploma. He was one of the first people in his family to finish high school and I'm really proud of him.
