About Andrey
With over 20 years of experience tutoring students in math, from elementary through college-level courses, I am passionate about helping students build confidence and mastery in math. My experience includes preparing students for the SAT, GED, and a nine-year tenure as a math teacher for grades 7-12. I am fully certified to teach middle and high school math, which has allowed me to work with students of various backgrounds and skill levels.
What drives me most is my ability to break down complex math concepts into simpler, more manageable steps. I believe that every student has the potential to succeed in math—sometimes they just need the right approach. I tailor my teaching to meet each student where they are, focusing on their strengths and helping them navigate through challenging problems with confidence.
My greatest joy comes from seeing a student progress from uncertainty to mastery. When a student or parent tells me, 'I'm no good at math,' I always remind them that everyone has the potential to excel. Sometimes, all it takes is someone to help you 'flip the switch' in your mind.
I always had a love for Math. A family friend asked me if I could tutor his daughter for her SAT. I was unsure how to begin but quickly realized how good I was at teaching. I elected to major in teaching and started tutoring more regularly to hone my craft.

When working with a new tutor, a student should feel comfortable. I like to ask questions and gauge how comfortable he/she is with the current subject. Then we can ease into where he/she feels they struggle in.
I have worked with all levels of students. From elementary Math to College Math. I have tutored children learning to multiply, teenagers struggling through Geometry, and adults trying to get their GED. I have tutored students in advanced placement classes and students with learning disabilities. I also have taught and tutored in Spanish fluently.
If you are looking for help in Math, the best thing you can do is to make regular appointments. Try to schedule at least once a week to establish a rhythm and comfort level. I would especially recommend twice a week for the best results. Try to do homework as much as you can before seeing a tutor, so you are focusing on the most difficult topics and study skills to best prep for you for upcoming exams. Your time and money is valuable, make sure to make the most of every session.
Recently I was tutoring a Pre-Calculus college student whom I’ve tutored in other courses in the past. During our session, we were working on the law of cosines which involves squaring side lengths of a triangle. When he started reciting perfect squares, I asked him which teacher had taught him these perfect squares, he responded with my name. He told me that I had taught him this when he was in 7th grade. I was touched to see how long I have impacted this student.

Mr. Garro makes math seem easier. I was always had trouble understanding during class and he always found a way to make me understand. I would have failed geometry if I didn’t have him. Thank you Mr. Garro!
