About Raiah
Hi, I'm Raiah and I am currently attenting NYU's Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program as a composer! Naturally, I have studied music theory for many years, and have grown extremely passionate about it. Music theory, unfortunately, usually focuses solely on Classical music. I personally love classical music, but I also like to study music theory in other genres like pop and musical theatre! As someone with perfect pitch, I also emphasize the importance of ear training, because I believe that without it, you can't truly understand or analyze the music that you listen to. I am young, eager, and ready to share a more contemporary music theory setting with you!
I love to see that as people become more well-versed in the musical language, they start applying it to their every day lives. They'll understand why this song works and that song doesn't. They'll be able to communicate better with other musicians, formally trained or not. Learning music theory worries many people that it will inhibit their writing, but surprisinly, it expands their musical language. There are nothing but advantages when learning music theory.

I like to ask them about their background in the topic first; see what things they're interested in, what their strengths are, if they play any instruments. Each student works differently, and it is my job to be flexible and mold my lessons and teaching style to their needs.
