• When and why did you develop an interest in your chosen field?

  I have been drawn to the domain of languages and linguistics for as long as I can remember. I always had a knack for learning languages and for producing written content. Throughout my studies in high school and college, I consistently achieved top grades in all of my language courses: English, French, Spanish, Italian, and German. I was encouraged by my teachers, who all praised my writing skills and my ability to retain grammar and orthography notions. As I grew older and began searching for jobs that would be both enjoyable and fulfilling, I recognized that language tutoring was the path that I was meant to take.

• What makes you passionate about your subject?

  As someone with a lifelong passion for all of my language classes, I can attest that that same passion transfers over into my lessons. I have always adored reading novels, discovering the intricacies of language, learning new words, and the entire process of structuring and writing essays. It brings me immense joy to share that same thirst for knowledge and creative motivation with students who need a bit of extra help. Their improvements and newfound love for language are what hearten me to continue pursuing teaching.

• What do you like about tutoring? What makes you a "Superprof"?

  I adore the sense of accomplishment that tutoring gives me. When my students tell me that my lessons helped them to improve their grades or to ace that exam, there is truly no better feeling. I love that my language skills and strategies achieve success for more than just myself: they also help other students to reach their own goals. I think that what makes me a "Superprof" is being more than just a teacher or a tutor for my clients. It's about connecting with them on a more personal level and taking the time to get to know their concerns, needs, and aspirations. It places the individual student at the center of my focus, rather than simply seeing them as another name in the classroom.

• Do you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you? Please explain.

  Throughout my academic progression, I have been inspired by so many unforgettable teachers who served as role models to me. One that stands out, however, is the first English teacher I had in college. She immediately acknowledged my outstanding writing skills and asked to present examples of my work to the class. She was the one who encouraged me to begin teaching English: she referred me to the school's Writing Tutors course, which would train me to provide fellow students with assistance in English reading and writing. Thanks to her, I pursued language tutoring on a professional level, equipped with all the skills I needed to do so.

• What are your keys to success?

  Reading, reading, and reading! I am a firm believer that improving one's skills in any language begins with reading. Mechanically studying the theory of grammar and orthography will only get you so far; reading books and articles will allow your brain to absorb all of those language rules without you even realizing it. If you take on the habit of reading consistently, you will find that your writing skills improve and your vocabulary expands, all while you are enjoying yourself! Not to mention that it makes you a more worldly, knowledgeable, and well-spoken person overall.
