About Stephen
With each song, there is an underlying emotion. My goal as a teacher is not only to help you as a student sing healthily, but as well as to dig into the text of the song and help you tell a story to an audience.
Having earned my bachelor degree in voice performance from Biola University, I have had a wide range of musical education. From opera to jazz, you will learn how to be a versatile singer in all that you perform. My goal is not to make you a better singer, but a better musican. Whether you want to sing classically or contemporary, we will work together to make sure that you feel comfortable and proud of how you sing!
I started teaching voice during my college years as an undergraduate. To me, teaching is one of the most rewarding things to do. To see a student grow from their first voice lesson and witness their musical journey is the best gift that a voice teacher could ask for.
Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from Biola University.

I like to find out what the student's passions are and what their goals are with taking voice lessons. The first couple of lessons will be me figuring out the students skills and weaknesses. This is helpful for me so that I can grow their strengths and help them with their weaker areas.
Various musical backgrounds from years of musical training to no experience at all. I've worked with children who have never played an instrument or sang as well as taught college age students who have dabbled in music a bit.
Though I am proud of the older students growing into their voice, my favorite teaching experience happend in the summer of 2017 when I went to Lebanon. I was there serving the Syrian refugee children. Here I was able to teach some of the kids how to play various instruments. Nothin touched me more than seeing one of the children learning how to play piano. They kept practicing and practicing and were so proud of themselves for learning a simple song.

Stephen Oey is excellent at finding, and building, on you're vocal strengthens and weakness. He is a very patient and kind teacher, but still holds you accountable and on task in order to make your voice the best that it can be. My voice has made vast improvements while taking lessons with Mr. Oey, and people have definitely noticed since then. I highly recommend taking lessons with him not only because of his extensive knowledge in music and vocal performance, but also the encouragement and insight he provides.
