About Michael
After working in the photography industry for over a decade, Michael Farmer started his own portrait photography business in 2007. In 2018, he opened his studio f/8 Studios Long Beach.
Michael has developed an extensive knowledge of in-studio and in-the-field lighting and photography techniques. He's availalbe to train new photographers looking to break into the field, and seasoned professionals seeking to hone and advance their skills.
His new, state-of-the art photography studio is located in Long Beach, CA, and equipped with everything needed for photo and video lessons and demonstrations, including multiple light set-ups. The studio has plenty of free parking, communal work space, brand new restrooms, a break room, and a warm and welcoming environment.
Michael is an award-winning photographer specializing in weddings, events, and portraits with a photojournalistic style. He has has been voted "Best of The Knot" by his wedding clients year after year, and was inducted into the Best of Weddings Hall of Fame. Bridal Guide featured one of his photos as one of the top 50 wedding photos in 2015, and he won Two Bright Lights' Editor's Choice Award for 2016 and 2017.
His wedding photos have been published on theknot.com, BuzzFeed Weddings, and gayweddings.com; on the wedding blogs Offbeat Bride, Carats & Cake, Something Turquoise, Borrowed & Blue, Equal & Forever, My Big Fat Indian Wedding, Outre Bride, Rustic Wedding Chic, and For Real; and in Bridal Guide and Gay Weddings and Marriage magazines.
Michael has photographed numerous celebrity events and conventions. Most notably, he has worked with KISS, Rob Zombie, Dave Mustaine of Megadeath, Crosby & Nash, Mary Murphy from "So You Think You Can Dance," the Joffrey Ballet, and Governor Jerry Brown. He has also worked as the on-set photographer for "Ludo Bites America" on the Sundance Channel, the backstage photographer for Dave Ramsey, video production for Dollar Shave Club, video production of ballet superstar Misty Copeland teaching a master class, the videographers for the California State University system. His photos have been published in Esquire Magazine, American Theatre Magazine, Riviera Magazine, Performances Magazine, Haute Living Magazine, Southwest Art Magazine, BLUECANVAS Magazine, and BroadwayWorld.com, among others.
I love meeting new people, and collaborating with them. My passion is creating, and guiding people to be the best creative that they can be.
I've been a professional photgraphy for over 20 years, and have owned my own business for over 11 years.

Perfect! Michael is an excellent teacher he was able to tailor the lesson to suit my exact learning needs with very clear instruction. He ensures that foundational concepts of photography are understood along with each topic. I was able to learn a lot about composition, the exact points to focus on such as depth, texture, color, and subject matter that make a good photo an excellent photo.

One of a kind . He’s hands on approach to teaching really helped. The fact that there is a fully equipped studio at the student disposal helps a lot. I feel I can continue my photography education here for years to come. They also offer group classes with live models. Posing, lighting, basics to advance this place rocks.
