About Bethany
Hello future musicians!
My name is Bethany Jones and I attended Central Michigan Univeristy with a degree in Music Education with a minor in choir. Right now I teach full time in a middle school teaching 6-8 choir!
Starting in 2016, I had a studio of 9 piano students through a school in Mount Pleasant, Michigan. From there I worked for Expressions Music Academy in Novi, Michigan where I had around 25 voice and piano students. During that time I also had 4 of my own students outside of Expressions Music Academy. Because of all this experience I am fully qualified to teach opera, classical, pop, and some jazz vocal techniques as well as beginning-intermediate piano lessons.
My background with music is very diverse! Starting at the age of 8 I started piano lessons, which continued through High School. I still play every day and it aids me every single day as I teach middle school choir. I played Clarinet and Saxophone in the high school jazz band, as well as sang in the choir my senior year of high school. From there I went on to Central Michigan University and auditioned for the vocal program. The role I enjoyed the most in college was the role of Rosalinde in the opera "Die Fledermaus." I spent most of my time performing in recitals, competitions, and operas while a student at CMU.
I would love to start up a new studio in Grand Rapids, Michigan! I believe that I am a unique teacher in that I provide lessons based on the individual. In other words, one size does NOT fit all. I try to develop relationships with my students so they feel comfortable to make mistakes in order to suceed with thier instrument.
Please contact me with any further questions about an opportunity to become a future student!
Thank you,
Bethany Jones
I love to see students make new connections and allow themselves to make mistakes in order to be better! One on one lessons is something I really enjoy so that I can give all my attention to one student to help them process, understand, and grow.
I started teaching piano lessons when I was still in high school. I loved working one-on-one with students and I believe that is what fired me up for getting a teaching degree at CMU.
I have a degree from Central Michigan University in Choral Music Education. I also have 5 years of experience teaching piano and voice lessons.

My process in working with a new student is very simple! Our first lesson is full of getting to know the student and his/her skills on the instrument. I typically like to hear the students' piano skills the first lesson just so I know what kinds of warm-ups and repertoire we should be looking at. From there we will continue to build skills and work on fun literature!
I have worked with students as young as 5 years old, all the way up to my oldest which was 54 years old!
The advice I would give is make sure you are comfortable with your teacher! So "shop" around and find a teacher that you can really bond with.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out

Perfect! I was hesitant about hiring someone I didn't know but it turned out to be an awesome experience! Bethany was amazing! My daughter been in a few plays and started asking for voice lessons a few months ago. She had zero experience with singing and Bethany immediately made her feel comfortable! Bethany sent home practice songs and even helped my daughter come up with an audition song and helped her record her audition for her next play! We look forward to continuing to work with Bethany and my daughter is looking forward to her next audition and not being as embarrassed sing anymore :) Thanks again Bethany!

Bethany was my kid’s Piano music teacher,
She was a geat, wonderfull Piano teacher,
still we miss her!!
Congratulations for her new job and studio!Bethany was an excellent teacher. As an older adult who has never had any exposure to musical education; it was difficult for me. Bethany was very sequential; she didn’t miss any steps in my foundational skills. She used a mixture of patience and strictness that helped me grow more than I thought I would in the time I worked with her. I would still be working with her had she remained in this area.
My son Jack began taking lessons with Bethany when she attended CMU. She was so patient and gracious with him and she really brought out his talent and love for music. Bethany is professional, kind and passionate about her work and music. We will never forget her and wish her all the best 💚
Very personable, extremely professional and passionate about her work
