About Stephanie

I was a pianist for a church during their Sunday sermons. Some of the parents in the congregation asked if I could teach their children piano.

I have a Bachelor of Music with an outside field degree. This means I continue taking all the core music classes and I can fill in any extra credits with classes that will help me with my career. These extra credits consists of:
   -Music Education for young children
   -Child psychology
   -Business
   -Piano pedagogy

I have a M.M for Piano performance. While in graudate school, I was a graduate assistant. I was tasked with teaching undergraduate piano minors music theory and having weekly private lessons with each student.

I started teaching about 8 years ago and have been teaching on and off during school whenever I have spare time. I've also been working as a private and semi-private teacher at music academies, and have taught students of all ages.

I like to start by teaching them the basics of piano, and we can add new material as we go when they are ready. After the students have mastered the fundamentals, we can sample a few different types of genres to see what the student enjoys the most.

All types! I've taught beginners, intermediate, and undergraduate minors. The youngest student I taught was 3 years old, and the oldest I've taught was 76.

Find a teacher that suits your needs. Some teachers can be too lenient or too strict. While they may be good for some, you should find a teacher who is capable of pushing you to just enough when you need it.

My first graduate recital. While I played solo recitals before, those were all just for fun. In the spring of 2019, I had to perform my own in front of my professors and colleagues. While it was probably the most nerve wracking thing I've ever done, I was proud of myself for being able to have the best performance I've had to date.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Definitely think about your schedule and how much time/effort you are willing to put into it. Teachers keep track of your practice ethics and make a schedule based on how quickly the students are advancing.

Don't be afraid to have this conversation with your teacher multiple times! Many of my students start off with saying they only want to play as a hobby, something to do with their free time. Some of them stay that way, and others begin to practice more rigorously.
