About Zoe
I'm a saxophonist and educator based in NYC with a masters degree in Jazz Studies/Saxophone from the Juilliard School. I’ve been playing professionally in the city for the past few years and I have worked at various jazz educational programs like Jazz at Lincoln Center's Middle School Jazz Academy and Jazz House Kids.
I have taught students of various skill levels and ages for the past six years. I'm grateful to have had wonderful teachers who gave me a lot of knowledge and nurtured my love of music. My goal is to do the same for my students by catering to their specific interests while challenging them and giving them a holistic music education.
I love sharing my passion for music with my students and seeing their growth. The saxophone is a malleable instrument, and students can really develop their own, individual voice. Playing is a vehicle for expression and can be very empowering, so it's a joy to give students the tools and guidance to develop their abilities.
I got started teaching privately at the Jazz at Lincoln Center Middle School Jazz Academy and soon after began teaching as a freelancer as well.
I'm a graduate of the Juilliard School and received both my bachelors ('18) and masters ('20) degrees. I was lucky to grow up with a lot of generous, inspiring mentors who passed down a lot of knowledge and set good examples of teaching. I have worked as a teaching assistant and private teacher at the Jazz at Lincoln Center Middle School Jazz Academy, and the Jazz House Kids Summer Workshop. I also have experience as a professional musician and have played as a leader and sideman at NYC venues like Dizzy's Club Coca Cola, Rose Hall at JALC, Smalls Jazz Club, Mezzrow, Ginny's Supper Club, and others.

I take some time to get to know the student, find out what their level is, and ask what they specifically want to get out of private lessons. If they already have material they are working on, I'll help them with that as well as give them appropriate new repertoire to work on. I also have a basic set of fundamental saxophone exercises that apply to all levels (i.e. long tones, scales, patterns, etc.).
I have worked with students of all ages, from young kids just starting out to adults looking to pursue music as a hobby or semi-professional level.
