About Denise
Most people are a bit fuzzy about technique when it comes to singing. The goal of any technique (and this is everything from playing an instrument to becoming a figure skater or diver) is to hide the difficulties from the viewer. You also want to master correct form to avoid injury. For singers this includes nodes, hemorrhages, etc. Unlike other instruments (piano, guitar, violin, etc.) the voice is inside your body where you can't see it. It's obvious that if you wanted to play the violin you would have to learn the "mechanics" of playing it---how to hold it, where to place your fingers, how to use the bow, etc. Singers need to master things like combinations of vowels & consonants,produce sound both high& low, fast & slow. To master any physical activity to the point of it being second nature (that means you won't have to think about it and can instead focus on what you wish to express) consists of only 3 elements:
1) Isolating and strengthening muscles
2) Correct form/coordination
3) Consistent repetition
I have been teaching over 10 years and am a professional singer. I did not graduate from "those who can't teach" University---I actually trained to BE a teacher. Your songs are only as good as your technique permits....
