Goalkeeper Training - Anytime, Anywhere
The best athletes watch and learn from the best visually. Goalkeeping is no different. For a goalkeeper to be confident and physically perform, he or she must have a mental image locked-in. This comes from watching, studying and mimicking. GKV helps goalkeepers visually lock-in on the many key concepts of goalkeeping so that the mind becomes confident enough to perform it.
From my playing experience, I learned that confidence truly is everything when defending the net. I fully developed my confidence a little late in my Junior year in high school which then took my game to the next level, where I led my team to the NJ Group IV State Finals playing against Soccertown USA’s Kearny High School (Tony Meola was actually in attendance). That game is where I was recruited to play at Monmouth University. Despite my breakout season, I only had 1 year of seriously being scouted as a highly caliber Div I prospect...
Until a keeper fully develops their confidence, he or she will play “handicapped” in order to hide their vulnerabilities and avoid being exposed. Since they are the critical last line of defense, many keepers play with a self-limiting mindset. On the flip side, an overconfident keeper often takes unnecessary risks while defending the net, leaving their team exposed and ultimately losing the confidence & trust from their teammates.
Striking the right balance of confidence allows a GK to play intelligently fearless which leads to sound decision making. To do this, a GK must understand themselves and their limitations in order to master themselves on the field.
My goal is to build up a goalkeepers confidence level so that they love this position and will want to rise to the occasion as the last line of defense in owning their 18 yard box. Confidence is what separates the great ones from all the rest.
