About Jonathan
I have been coaching swimming since 1999 in various capacities: summer swim league, USA Swimming-affiliated clubs, and high school swimming. I have twice won the District coach of the year honor in high school swimming.
I have coached many promising athletes including a girl who had the second fastest time in the 100 yard butterfly at the Texas high school state swim meet.
I logins it rewarding to help kids progress from weak swimmers to proficient swimmers; from proficient swimmers to fast swimmers; from fast swimmers to champions. Most of all, I love to see the excitement in the eyes of a kid who just accomplished what s/he never thought possible at the beginning of the journey.
It was a natural progression from years of learning the sport.
I have been swimming competitively since the age of 10, and continue swimming with masters swimming programs today.
I have trained under some of the best swim coaches in the state and in the country - including former University of Florida head coach Randy Reese, retiring University of Texas head men's coach Eddie Reese, and under Olympic Gold Medalists Sean Jordan and Jill Sterkle.
I have also been a USA Swimming certified.

About the lesson

First I assess the student's current skill level and goals.
1. I work to establish body position in the water to maximize flotation
2. Establish the freestyle kick.
3. Add freestyle arm motions.
4. Repeat step 2 and 3 for Backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly.
5. Use a variety of drills to refine, improve, and reinforce stroke technique.
6. I tend to do a lot of tactile manipulation out of the water to help build muscle memory when training in the water.
I have worked with students who have just learned to swim all the way up to Texas high school state swim meet qualifiers.
