Sergio Borges was an elite level Ironman distance triathlete. He has dedicated the last 25 + years to studying the ART and science of triathlon training. During this time, he has competed in hundreds of races of all distances including 23 Ironman races around the world (9:38 PR), over 60 half ironmans (4:12 PR), qualifying for the Hawaii Ironman World Championships seven times. Sergio has also been nominated as "All American" by USA Triathlon, 10 times. After a decade of investment banking, he decided to apply his expertise to triathlon coaching. In 2003 after contesting the traditional training for many years, Sergio developed the innovative and effective training method - Inverted Periodization.

I have coached over 1,000 athletes from kids to older adults. There are no limits to whatyou can learn and evolve if done it right !
Experience is very important but also the ability the coach has to communicate with the athlete. It's not about how much the coach knows but how efficient he/she is in passing the information.

Sergio is hands down the best triathlon coach I ever had. He has several years of experience, racing various distances in all sorts of conditions so expect knowledge. Someone, who is always cheering me up and pushing me farther than I could ever imagine. Usually, my time is very limited with work and being a mom but, Sergio has always accommodated my personal schedule with enough strategic workouts that keep me fast enough to be at the top of my age group. While training with him, I never felt overtrained and never developed any injury and that is the most important piece of the puzzle during my athlete journey. He is the type of coach who wants to see me succeed, who cares, who calls to explain different workouts and finally a coach who keeps me accountable. Highly recommend!
Before the end of 2019 I decided to utilize the USAT Mentorship Program. As a Level 2 coach I wanted to find a Level 3 mentor. There are only a handful of L3's around, and at the recommendation of a coaching colleague Eric Doehrman of Rule 5 Endurance Group in Huntsville I reached out to Sergio Borges - Triathlon of Sergio Borges X Training - Triathlon in San Diego. After my first 2hr Facetime meeting with him I quickly understood why he's a Level 3, why he's been a successful athlete and coach for so long, and how much I could learn from him. As a bonus I got to meet and talk with him in person two weeks ago while attending the Endurance Exchange Summit in Tempe, AZ. One of the most genuine and humble (experienced) coaches I've ever met.
I honestly would've never imagined myself being able to come this far, and finally seeing myself doing this for many years to come. I cannot thank you enough for the coaching -- not only for helping me get faster, but for promoting good habits and sharing a more natural approach to triathlon -- results come from hard, consistent training, and not necessarily from getting the best equipment
"I have been using Sergio for about 10 weeks and i cant stress how much of a reset i needed to make regarding my approach to training. My enjoyment of training has lifted considerably and i now have a "healthy fatigue" feeling rather than a "toxic/stressed" fatigue at the end of my week. Im already excited about the possibilities for the season ahead with a 19 minute PB (4hr 35m) at my first 70.3 the other weekend. Your a gold mine of information Sergio and its great be working with you!"
"After only 5 weeks of training under Sergio Borges training plan I PB'd doing the run leg of Challenge Shepparton yesterday with a 1:34:26 I came in 19 minutes under my estimated time and pb which totally blew me away. I accredit a lot of the improvement to the training plan as it has had me focusing on different areas which I learned very early I was weak in."
Sergio is the single most knowledgeable tri sport coach I have met. He has been my coach throughout the collegiate season training at UC San Diego, and has turned over a new page in my competitive racing lifestyle. Besides correcting my running form, creating a more efficient swim stroke, and giving...
I'm training better and racing faster under Sergio. When I have a limited amount of time to train, but a big race, Sergio crafts a schedule that always manages to get me to the start feeling fresh and fast. And, just as importantly, I have a successful race.
I've trained with Sergio for over five years, and have been injury-free. Workouts are hard when they are supposed to be hard, and my body has learned to crave hard days. The easy ones are always fun, and his Recovery Days are perfectly timed.
