About Tessa

I offer studio classes and private lessons in the style of vinyasa, power, and restorative yoga. My focus is on helping people find joy and accepance in thier practice no matter what it loks like for them, thier body, mindset, or day!

I completed my 200-HR Power Teacher Training with Corepower Yoga in December of 2018, and completed my 50-HR Continuing Education with Corepower Yoga in February of 2019. For the protection of my students I have Professional Liabilty Insurance and am CPR/AED certified.

Yoga has brought me such peace and confidence in my own life, and now as an instructor I hope to bring that same love and happiness to others! Part of what I love about yoga is that there is always more to learn, both as a student and as an instructor. When a student tells me they had a really good class or session my heart fills with joy!

I had been practicing consistently and there was just something inside me that was calling me to do teacher training. I didn't know if I wanted to be a teacher after I completed my lessons but I wanted to be open to the experience. Soon after it became clear that this was something I wanted to do with my life. I was overwhelmed by the kind-hearted community that surrounded me and supported each other. I knew that I had found something beautiful...

Private Lessons:

I typically have a meet and greet to get to know each other. We discuss objectives, any health concerns, expectations, and to make sure it's a good fit! The first lesson is about trying things out, evaluating where my client is in their practice and adjusting from there. The most important aspect is open dialog between me and my student so I can customize sessions that are unique to their physical and personal goals!

Studio Classes:

If you are a new student who would like to take one of my studio classes you can sign up online through Corepower Yoga or North Loft Yoga or simply drop in! Arrive 10 minutes before class starts so we can discuss what experience you have with yoga and if there are any health considerations I should be aware of. Sign up through the links below!

I have worked with students of all ages, backgrounds, and proficnencies; students ranging from 7 - 70 years old; begginers and seasoned practioners. The key to a successful lesson is not how advanced you are where your body is at, it's your abilty to communicate your needs so I can give you a practice that works for you!

Things to consider before you hire a private yoga instructor:

1. What styles of yoga do they teach? Various yoga styles have different focuses from breath work, to building lean muscles mass, to relaxation. Find an instructor whose teaching style compliments your intention.

2. What is their experience? What kinds of students have they worked with? Are they used to teaching students that are in your demographic? This isn't necessarily a deal breaker but certainly something to consider.

3. Do you feel comfortable around them? Yoga can be a very emotionally vulnerable practice so it's important to have an instructor that makes you feel safe. Obviously, it can take some time to build up repour and trust, but in your first meeting you should like the instructor and their energy.

I did a special class for Valentine's Day centered around The Beatles and thier music. I made the sequence specifically centered around love and communty. There was laughter and corny jokes, but it also got pretty emotional by the end. It had been almost a year since I started my teacher training. As I looked around the room at a class full of regular students (most of which come every week), I started to tear up. These people have made me so happy, I'd grown so much, and so have they. We are all connected by the love of yoga...

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Things to consider before you speak to an instructor about private lessons:

1. Students should first think about safety. For example: current or past injuries, sensitive areas or joints, high/low blood pressure, and areas of tension, tightness, or stress. Commutate this with your instructor before you take a class so they can give you modifications that are safe for your body.

2. Think about what you want to focus on. You can have long term goals or simply a goal for the day. For example: increased flexibility, building lean muscle mass, relaxation, meditation, breathe work, or balance. And guess what, sometimes you don't even have to have goals! Some students just want to have an instructor lead the way and guide them through their practice and that's great too! Whatever you want from your practice, let your instructor know.

3. Consider your availability. How much of your time do you want to commit to your practice that’s realistic for you and your schedule. Do you want to practice once a month, once a week, multiple times a week? There is no right or wrong answer just make sure you’re being honest with yourself.
