About Nimaya
I'm a violinist and teacher with over seven years of experience, specialising in folk styles from around the world. I hold a Bachelor of Music in Early Music with a focus on Baroque Violin, and my passion lies in the vibrant traditions of Irish, Scottish, and American Old-Time fiddling. My teaching is rooted in these living traditions—rich with history, rhythm, and soul. I place strong emphasis on ear-based learning, helping students internalise melodies before reading them. Ornamentation and rhythmic bowing patterns are at the heart of my lessons, giving each tune its authentic groove and flair. I guide students through the stylistic nuances that make folk music so compelling. Lessons often include playing along with folk jam tracks and using drone tuners to strengthen intonation and tonal memory. I take a repertoire-based approach, using real tunes as the framework for technique, style, and musical expression. Whether you're just beginning or looking to deepen your folk fiddle style, I tailor lessons to your pace and interests. There’s no one-size-fits-all here—just a supportive space to grow your playing. I tailor my teaching to support each learner’s unique style and goals.
