I am an experienced educator dedicated to helping primary-aged children develop the skills, subject knowledge, and confidence they need to thrive. With over 15 years of combined teaching experience, I understand exactly how children learn best and what they need to succeed in their educational journey. Fully Vetted and Secure: I hold a current Enhanced DBS check (dated within the last 12 months) and am registered with the Update Service for your peace of mind. Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL): Your child's safety is paramount; I am the DSL for Clever Clogs Academy and maintain up-to-date Safeguarding training. My Teaching Philosophy My approach at Clever Clogs Academy is built on more than just academic drills. I focus on: Promoting Independence: I aim to foster the independence and success of my students, ensuring they build the internal tools to succeed without becoming reliant on a tutor. Building Confidence: Whether preparing for the 11+ GL Assessment Transfer Test or supporting Primary Maths and English (Years 1-6), I provide unparalleled support to boost self-esteem alongside academic results. Evidence-Based Progress: I provide detailed progress reports and termly feedback sessions to ensure parents are fully informed of their child's development. My name is Mat McArthur, and as the owner of Clever Clogs Academy, I personally lead our tuition services to ensure they meet the highest professional standards. My approach is designed to be supportive, factual, and strictly aligned with UK educational and safety best practices. My Techniques and Teaching Methodology: I believe in a structured yet adaptable approach that prioritises both academic progress and student wellbeing. Building Independence: My primary goal is to promote the independence and success of my students; I actively work to ensure they do not become overly dependent on me as a tutor. Fact-Based Feedback: I maintain clear, factual records of every child's progress, ensuring that feedback to parents is accurate and helpful. Safe Learning Environment: All sessions are conducted in a dedicated, professional space that is fully risk-assessed to prevent injuries and maintain focus. Typical Lesson Length I offer two main session formats to ensure that learning is age-appropriate and manageable for the students: 60-minute sessions. 90-minute sessions. My Qualifications and Experience Parents can trust that their child is in expert hands: With over 15 years of experience in primary education, I bring expertise, enthusiasm and empathy to every session. Having served as a senior leader in numerous primary schools, I understand how to build confidence whilst maintaining high expectations. My approach combines rigorous academic preparation with genuine care for each child's wellbeing. I specialise in making complex concepts accessible and enjoyable, ensuring children develop both knowledge and a love for learning. My experience with 11+ preparation and SATs has helped countless children achieve their goals. I believe that every child can succeed with the right support, encouragement and teaching approach tailored to their individual needs. Professional Accreditation: I am a member of The Tutors' Association (TTA) and adhere strictly to their professional Code of Practice. Who the Lessons Are For My sessions are specifically tailored for primary-level education: Levels: Primary tuition for Maths and English and specialised 11+ / Transfer Test Prep. Ages: Children aged 5 to 11 (Years 1 to 6). Individual Needs: I work closely with parents to identify and support any Special Educational Needs (SEND) to ensure every student can thrive.
