About Sam
Throughout my entire life, I have been absolutely enamoured with the English language. However, growing up in Malaysia, I was always left feeling frustrated and disheartened by the subpar English education I received. The teachers were often inexperienced and failed to convey the true beauty and complexity of the language. It was then that I realised the immense value of having an English teacher who knew the language inside and out and was passionate and enthusiastic about sharing their knowledge.
That's why I am so thrilled to be the kind of English tutor that I always yearned for. I am deeply committed to creating a warm, compassionate, and supportive environment that instills confidence and inspires a love of learning. I believe that every student is unique and therefore deserves a tailored approach to their learning experience. Whether it's improving pronunciation, grammar, writing, or comprehension, I will work tirelessly to find the right teaching methodologies that fit their individual needs and goals.
I am genuinely excited about helping students of all ages and levels achieve their full potential in English. My approach is not only highly professional but also infused with a deep sense of compassion and drive. My approach to tutoring is tailored and unique for each individual based on their goals and capabilities. I offer a variety of techniques and teaching methodologies so that students can choose what they'd like to focus & improve on, whether it's their pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, writing, their capability to engage in basic conversation, or even mastering the intricacies of comprehending literature!
Moreover, I specialise in accent reduction and fluency training, having developed a predominantly American accent myself. I am more than happy to work with students who wish to sound more like native English speakers and feel confident in their speaking abilities! Along with that, My fluency in Malay also allows me to cater to students who speak Malay as their first language or require explanations in Malay!
My lessons are typically 1.5 to 2 hours per session, and I like to have at least 1-2 lessons each week to ensure students make steady progress. I'm highly qualified as a tutor with plenty of experience helping my peers and kids improve their vocabulary, as well as training other kids for English debates.
Here are some recent notable achievements of mine:
• Qualified to compete at Yale University (USA) for The World's Scholar's Cup Tournament Of Champions in 2022
• Won 4th Best Debater in Kuala Lumpur during the World Scholar's Cup Regional Round in 2022
• Accepted into the BRATs 2023 Young Journalist Programme run by The Star's Newspaper-in-Education (Star-NiE) team.
• Won as a Top Participant at the Sunway-Oxbridge Essay Competition in 2022!
My lessons are geared towards both children & adults ranging anywhere from the age of 6 to 20 years old. I'm enthusiastic about helping my students achieve their full potential, and I'm confident that my unique and engaging teaching methodologies will make learning English a fun and enjoyable experience for everyone!
