About Eleanor
I am a graduate of the University of Edinburgh with a first class Master of Arts degree in French and Spanish. I have experience tutoring children whilst living abroad (6 children in total). I have experience giving lessons to adults, too. Having studied both languages as a foreign language, and having lived in both France and Spain, I am very familiar with the foreign language learning process specific to native English speakers. I know where the difficulties lie and I know how to explain and improve understanding of them.

I thoroughly believe that the best way to learn a language is to try to communicate as much as possible in the target language. I understand that at the beginning of the language learning process it is difficult to have the confidence to communicate and I am a very positive and encouraging person. At the beginning and end of each lesson, I will start a conversation in the language and help with the responses, whatever the level. Regarding written communication, grammar is key. Therefore, a large part of the lesson will be dedicated to going through grammatical structures, whether specifically requested by the student or otherwise. Finally we will work on vocabulary and word families, whether it be specific to topic areas for GCSE or A Level (as in the books mot à mot and palabra por palabra), or simply to widen your range and therefore ability to cover new areas of conversation. We will go through what you have learnt using exercises and tools such as books, videos, films, songs, etc. to solidify the understanding. I also believe that reinforcement via a small amount of homework is a key additional tool of learning.
