About Sofia
Hello! I’m Sofia Castalia, a dynamic musician with nearly 20 years of experience teaching and performing. I hold a degree in Violin Performance and Business Management, and am a current member of ASTA (American String Teachers’ Association) and the SAA (Suzuki Association of the Americas). Over the course of the past 19 years, I have built an extensive performance career. My credits include orchestras, musicals, operas, ballets, chamber ensembles, recording projects, and solo performances, for which I have most frequently performed as soloist, concertmaster, or first violinist. I have also performed for weddings, receptions, and private events. Since 2006, I have had the joy of teaching all ages and skill levels in violin, viola, piano, and keyboard. In 2012, I expanded my work to include teaching and mentoring in universities, high schools, and youth theaters. In 2019, I began teaching in preschool through middle school classrooms, where I also taught choir and theater. I have also led group classes, masterclasses and technique workshops for beginners through advanced violinists.

I have a very creative, collaborative teaching style, focusing on teaching technique and practice strategies, while also exploring various facets of music theory, music history, acoustics, and performance skills. I am passionate about nurturing each student’s unique learning journey. Whether we’re working on bow holds or performance confidence, I believe in meeting my students where they are and adapting to their individual styles and goals. My mission is to help students grow into confident, well-rounded musicians, empowered by their progress and fueled by their curiosity.
