About Jan

Born in Poland, he learned at a specialist music school in Warsaw. He then studied violin and chamber music in Hannover, Luxembourg and Saarbruecken before obtaining his Masters Degree with Distinction at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. His international education allowed him to have a broad perspective on different schools of teaching music which all are an inspiration in Jan's own teaching activities.

Jan’s classical experience spans from early music projects with Sir John Eliot Gardiner, Andras Schiff and Phillippe Hereweghe, through romantic and contemporary repertoire with Lorin Maazel, Kurt Masur, Riccardo Muti, Gustavo Dudamel, Sir Simon Rattle, Andris Nelsons and Herbert Blomstedt. He has toured the world with the Philharmonia and the LSO playing in majority of the main concert venues across the globe including the Suntory Hall in Tokyo, Philharmonie in Berlin, Musikverein in Vienna, Lincoln Center in New York, Walt Disney Hall in Los Angeles. Jan has worked as principal and co-principal violinist with the Philharmonia Orchestra and the Oxford Philharmonic. His other orchestral work includes guest leading the National Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre de Chambre du Luxembourg, European Academic Orchestra and Warsaw Camerata. Jan is also a keen chamber musician. He was one of the founding members of the Idomeneo String Quartet and in the recent years he has been playing regularly as part of Philharmonia Chamber Players Series at the Royal Festival Hall. He has also played as guest musician for The Book of Mormon, Hamilton, Aspects of Love, Phantom of the Opera and Les Miserables in the West End. Jan has been a part of groundbreaking and award-winning digital projects such as VR Sound Stage, The Virtual Orchestra and Universe of Sound with the Philharmonia and Esa-Pekka Salonen.

As a member of the Philharmonia Orchestra and a guest with the London Symphony Orchestra as well as a session musician in London he has worked with and learned from the world’s greatest. Jan has recorded soundtracks for numerous film, TV and game productions with composers such as John Williams, Alexandre Desplat, Stephen Price and James Newton Howard. Many of these recordings won prestigious awards including Oscars (Gravity, King's Speech, The Shape of Water) and Baftas. His pop music collaborations include Ed Sheeran, Barbra Streisand, Ellie Goulding, Dermot Kennedy, Neil Diamond and Rag’n’bone Man. Working regularly at Abbey Road and Air Studios in London he has recorded for leading arrangers such as Walter Afansieff and Bill Ross. Jan was one of the founders and the Planning Director of the Polish National Youth Orchestra. On top of his administrative and representative functions, he has been involved with PNYO as an individual tutor and rehearsal coach. The PNYO is a first national youth orchestra in Poland. The coaches are Philharmonia Orchestra players invited by Jan and the goal is to promote a culture of supportive ensemble playing, encourage creativity through improvisation workshops and support student initiative/leadership in decision making. In the UK, Jan has for many years worked extensively with the Philharmonia Orchestra Learning and Engagement department as workshop leader and coach. He also took part in a broad variety of LSO Discovery projects. Jan teaches privately and his students' ages vary from 5 to 45. He has coached Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance orchestra and has worked as visiting lecturer at University of West London. He has given masterclasses and led workshops in Germany, Poland and the UK.
