About Julia
I'm an independent documentary filmmaker now. However, I started my media career as a radio show presenter and journalist at Radio Beijing about 20 years ago. It requires the highest level of standard mandarin to become a radio show host in China. Therefore I have also acquired the A-level standard mandarin certificate. I'm born and raised in Beijing, thus mandarin is exactly my mother language. Mandarin is actually based on the Beijing dialect. In the past years, I have taught many foreign friends mandarin, especially speaking and Chinese culture. I met my German husband in Beijing ten years ago, and we moved to Germany last year. He is my best student who has grown from a beginner to an advanced Chinese speaker.

I'm flexible with various teaching contents and methods, all tailor-made to your very need. I prefer not to teach exactly by the book, and try to bring more fun into learning Chinese. I'm good at teaching and correcting the tones of your spoken Chinese. I'm also experienced in expanding your learning from the Chinese characters and words to the rich Chinese culture that nurtures the language.
For advanced learners, I'm good at teaching Chinese in Chinese. For beginners, I can also teach in fluent English or intermediate German.
