About Devan

*Please note that Dev has only two teaching slots remaining for the current academic year. Covid-19 Alert: Dev has moved all of his lessons online for the foreseeable future and is monitoring the developments of the virus closely. Dev is the founder of [Tutor Dev], a professional mathematics tutor and mentor whose core purpose for tutoring is to boost his students’ knowledge and their confidence in mathematics. Most of Dev’s 11+ entrance exam students keep him for secondary school maths tutoring. Would you like your child to have more confidence? Would you like your child to be taught and not just sent to a class to do questions? Would you like your child to look forward to learning the subject further and be able to explain concepts? In a few sessions at most, Dev can help your child achieve the above. Dev’s academic record is as follows: - B.Sc (Honours) Economics with Spanish - 2.1- University of Birmingham - High A in A level Mathematics - High A* in GCSE Mathematics (94% in exams) 2019 highlights: - 100% pass rate for 11+ independent school exams. Students have passed exams for New Hall, Forest School and City of London boys. - a KS3 student averaging a grade 6 is now at an average of an 8. - Dev’s quarterly catch-ups with parents have shown students’ confidence and maths knowledge have increased. - A student at Chigwell school was at the bottom of the class, after three weeks of preparing for an end of term exam, he achieved the highest mark in his class. 2018 highlights: - 100% 11+ exam pass rate for grammar and independent schools with students accepting offers at Woodford County High School and top independent schools such as Brentwood School, Forest School, Chigwell School and Bancroft's School. - All students gained offers at their first choice school. A couple of students received a minimum of two offers from top independent schools. 2017 highlights: - One of Dev’s students has been awarded a place at Forest School for 13+. - A student averaging a U in AS Level Maths, achieved a high C after two months of lessons. - A student averaging a low D in GCSE Spanish achieved a comfortable B grade. - A KS3 Maths student averaging a borderline level 3 achieved a high level 6 in his end of year exams and is predicted a level 7/8. - A GCSE Maths student averaging a low D achieved a comfortable B Grade after a short period of lessons. - All students have achieved their desired grade as a minimum. For your peace of mind, Dev is Security Cleared and holds a DBS certificate. Reasons to choose Dev as your tutor: 1. He limits his students to ensure he maintains his teaching quality across all students. This is evidenced by the reviews thus far. 2. Dev tells you exactly which books are worth purchasing to boost your knowledge and hence save you the time and stress of searching and contemplating. 3. He provides full worked solutions to all questions from the books you will use together so your child can recap the methods taught in the lesson. 4. He has unrivalled patience and can boost his students’ confidence in a subject. 5. He provides honest advice and feedback throughout. 6. He monitors the progress and learning objectives of his students to ensure they are maximising their potential. 7. Dev is a punctual and reliable individual. Tutoring Experience Dev has been tutoring full time since 2016 and has taught a number of students KS3, GCSE and A-Level Maths. He has also taught a number of students preparing for the 10+, 11+ and 13+ entrance exams to top independent and grammar schools. He is currently preparing several students for upcoming 11+ entrance exams (Maths and Non-verbal) at top schools such as Forest, Bancrofts, City of London boys, Westcliff and Woodford County High School. TUTORING APPROACH 11+: Dev specialises in Maths. He has made his own 11+ question bank which mirrors the style of questions asked in the exams and runs mock exam sessions and provides feedback on improvement areas. He keeps a central record of material covered, homework issued and marks. He is also able to offer a peer to peer review on papers so that you are able to see how your child is performing relative to other students in the same age group. Maths: Dev’s lessons involve going through all topics in the exam syllabus, learning the necessary theory and reinforcing the students' understanding through an abundance of questions. Homework will also be exercises which will aid their understanding. As the exam date approaches, he focuses on past papers to ensure his students are entering their exam as ready as one can be. He has always set the bar high and ensure his students extract the most out of their potential. Please note that Dev covers all exam boards for maths (OCR, Edexcel, AQA etc.). From his experience throughout school and university, Dev has noticed that the prospect of learning challenging subjects in general can be daunting and students often have low confidence levels as a result. Dev would like to share with you the techniques that he followed to achieve these high marks whilst making the learning experience thoroughly enjoyable. Lastly, Dev offers out of contact hours assistance should his students have any queries regarding the exercises set or otherwise. TESTIMONIALS 11+ Entrance Exams (Alison) - Dev is passionate about maths and this passion is infectious! It also means that his teaching method is interesting and fun. My 10 year old son had a ‘block’ where maths was concerned and after only a couple of months working with Dev, that had gone AND he really enjoys each session with Dev. Dev also worked with him before the 11+ exams and thanks to Dev help, he was invited back to interview for a place at both schools that he sat the exams at! We can’t recommend Dev highly enough… ! GCSE Maths (Leena) - Dev is an excellent tutor!!… he has made my son feel so much more confident in maths, to the extent where my son now puts his hand up in class to answer questions and has received achievement points for class participation. I would not hesitate to recommend Dev to anyone one looking for a maths tutor.
