Speaking four languages myself I use the same methodology which I used to learn these languages; a mixture of explanation of grammar consolidated by exercises, followed up by appropriate reading and discussion in order to put the grammar into practice and learn and expand vocabulary. This can be followed up by a written exercise if the student requires in order to work on written skills.
