Warm-Up (5-10 minutes) - Activity: Quick discussion or icebreaker to assess the student’s current understanding and needs. - Example: Ask the student to share what they’re currently working on (e.g., an essay, a reading assignment, or a grammar issue). - Example: Ask, “What do you find most challenging about English assignments?” 2. Focus Skill/Concept (20-25 minutes) I typically choose one area to focus on based on the student’s needs. Here are some options: A. Essay Writing - Teach the structure of an essay (introduction, body paragraphs, conclusion). - Discuss thesis statement development and topic sentences. - Provide examples of strong vs. weak thesis statements. B. Literary Analysis - Teach how to analyze a text (theme, symbolism, character development, etc.). - Practice close reading of a short passage. - Discuss how to incorporate textual evidence into an analysis. C. Grammar and Mechanics - Review common grammar issues (e.g., subject-verb agreement, comma usage, sentence fragments). - Provide examples and practice exercises. D.
