About Alicia

Hi, my name is Alicia and I have always been passionate about learning new languages. I grew up in Tokyo and have lived in the U.K. for 10 years. After studying French and Spanish at UCL, I pursued a master's degree in Media, Communication and Development at LSE. I'd love to help you with anything, whether it be just wanting to start learning how to write/speak in Japanese or struggling with accents! Languages: Japanese, English, French, Spanish

About the lesson

I have always been told by my students that they never get intimidated or scared of making mistakes when I am tutoring. Mistakes are what make us learn languages so much quicker! Everyone has their own method when it comes to language learning. I'd be flexible to your needs, focus and what you enjoy!

Nicole, who works as a nanny for a family in London, approached me about 2 weeks ago and requested me to tutor for the daughter to cultivate her interest in Japanese even further. I have offered an intensive introductory course for a week, which consisted of four 45min lessons covering different aspects of the Japanese language and culture. Only a handful of lessons in, I'm already more excited and engaged with learning Japanese than I have been in the past 2 years of Duolingo, one-off classes, and workbooks.

Perfect! I haven't learnt a new language in so many years, that I was worried about starting a new language completely from scratch, let alone Japanese. Alicia, with her way of teaching, with real-life examples and Japanese cultural references, makes it very easy to learn and really makes me believe that this isn't an impossible task!

Perfect! I had put off finding a Japanese tutor for over a year because I was worried I wouldn’t find someone who’s just as excited about languages as I am, a Japanese native and truly listens to what your needs are rather than deciding ‘they know best’ (amongst other things). Alicia is all of those things and more. I’m at a more advanced level where you already know a lot of the grammar and you’re really trying to fix the little things. I think I had an incredible teacher at school, but Alicia has gone on to show and explain so many things to me in the 2 lessons that we’ve had that I had not once heard in my formal studies - so much makes sense now!! If I’ve managed to grasp so much in 2.5hrs worth of Japanese, then I can’t fully comprehend just how quickly my level of Japanese will sky rocket...
I think if you’ve studied languages for a while you know that most native tutors don’t actually know much about their language linguistically speaking - well, Alicia certainly does! Not just on a basic level, but the really nitty gritty stuff too (which is perfect if you’re a bit of a grammar nerd like me ). She’s clearly a natural at teaching too (coming from a fellow tutor) and really takes time to answer questions, research what she doesn’t know and explains concepts in such a smooth way that doesn’t make you feel like you’re in a boring lecture. Such an easy going & fun personality to be around...I really do feel like I’ve landed on a gold mine here. I couldn’t recommend her more. I truly believe that whatever your needs are she’ll manage with flying colours! Thank you for all your help Alicia x

She makes sure I understand all information and gives a homework based on what You need to practice more.

Perfect! Classes with Alicia are really informative! I had been doing my own study for a while, but for sure nothing that can compare to how it is taught by someone who really knows. Everything that you're struggling with, she takes her time to evaluate what you need to improve and how to do it and reach your ultimate goals (which she bases her lessons on), an then assigns you exercises to work on it. One of the best decisions I have done to keep learning and get better at my Japanese :)

Perfect! Classes with Alicia are really informative! I had been doing my own study for a while, but for sure nothing that can compare to how it is taught by someone who really knows. I have so much new knowledge, plus I have been given things to work on.
