About Diana

I'm originally from the Dominican Republic and grew up speaking both Spanish and English. I've also been surrounded by people from different Latin American countries, so I'm familiar with a variety of accents and expressions.

I'm currently studying Biology at the University of California, Riverside, where I also work as an undergraduate research assistant in a magnonics lab.

One of my personal goals is to become a polyglot! I'm fluent in Spanish and English, and I've been studying Mandarin Chinese on and off since the COVID-19 pandemic. For over a year now, I've been consistently taking lessons and practicing, and I'm currently at an intermediate level. I've also taken Italian classes and picked up some of the language along the way. I'm still deciding what to learn next, but French, German, and Arabic are all on my list.

Outside of academics and languages, I have quite a few interests. I play the harp, love jazz and salsa dancing, and have competed in ballroom dancing in the past. I also enjoy backpacking, traveling, spending time outdoors, and trying new things whenever I get the chance.

About the lesson

HOW MY LESSONS WORK

Before our first lesson, I'd like to know what you're learning Spanish for, how much you already know, and what you'd like help with. From there, we can figure out what to focus on.

Depending on your goals, we can work on:

• Conversational Spanish: Practice everyday conversations, pronunciation, and expressing yourself without constantly translating from English.

• Beginners: Start with basic vocabulary, grammar, sentence structure, and gradually work toward having conversations.

• School & exams: Review class material, work through homework questions, and prepare for upcoming tests.

• Reading & writing: Improve grammar, spelling, reading comprehension, and written Spanish.

• Travel: Practice ordering food, asking for directions, meeting people, and other situations you might encounter abroad.

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING A LESSON

I like combining explanations with practice. For example, if we're learning the past tense, we might go over how it works, look at a few examples, and then practice talking about what you did over the weekend.

If you're more interested in conversation, we can spend most of the lesson speaking Spanish and go over vocabulary or grammar as it comes up.

For students taking Spanish classes, we can also use your course materials to focus on exactly what you're studying.

A LITTLE ABOUT ME

I grew up speaking and writing Spanish and have been around people from different Latin American countries, so I'm familiar with different accents and expressions.

I'm also learning Mandarin Chinese and have been studying it for over a year. Being a language student myself has helped me understand some of the difficulties that come with learning a completely different language, especially when it comes to remembering vocabulary, understanding grammar, and actually using what you've learned in conversation.

WHO I TEACH

I offer lessons for beginners and intermediate learners, including high school and college students, as well as adults learning Spanish for travel, work, or personal interest.
