I started tutoring in high school when I was hired to be a peer tutor. I have been tutoring math up to calculus, Spanish, chemistry, and writing skills ever since. I loved tutoring so much that I joined the "Summer Bridge" program at UC Berkeley as a Math tutor and then later as a Math instructor. This program targeted students coming from low API high schools that were planning to attend UC Berkeley the following quarter. Through this program we attended weekly trainings in which we were instilled teaching mindset and values such as "growth mindset", which emphasizes that it is within everyone's power to excel in a subject and our limitations lie in our belief not in our abilities. We also learned the importance of being a "guide from the side" when helping students, meaning, we as tutors should give them the confidence to solve the problems themselves and we are just on the side offering hints and clues as necessary. This instills confidence in them that they can solve these on their own. One technique to help with this is giving students a "parallel problem" that mimics the one they are currently trying to solve but with differences and demonstrating how to solve the parallel so that they can then be confident solving the assigned problem at hand on their own. It is values and strategies like these that allowed me to level up my tutoring effectiveness in college and I have carried over these principles to my current private tutoring sessions. Aside from my experience tutoring, I also have plenty of academic experience from my chemical engineering degree and current PhD program. This includes strong skills in mathematics from elementary up to college level math, including multivariable calculus, as well as chemistry, physics, biochemistry, chemical engineering. Additionally I can provide help with writing skills as well as Spanish. My teaching method involves emotional support and not just helping a student solve a homework problem. From my experience and training, I have seen the transformation in students' abilities to excel in their classes by simply instilling confidence in them and being a moral support and expressing empathy during their studies. I myself have experience taking very challenging classes, so I can provide support from those personal experiences as well as experiences I have had with the many students I've tutored over the past decade. I believe in the abilities of every student I help guide in their studies and am excited for the opportunity to help new students with their challenges in my fields of expertise.

Perfect! Moriel seems very passionate about helping young students. She is extremely knowledgeable. She nicely sets goals with her students. She understands weaknesses and strengths of her student right away. I was able to converses with her prior the first meeting and she was very willing to listen to our expectations and it helped us a lot !
Perfect! Moriel was efficient at covering my college-level chemistry subject matter with me. She is friendly, encouraging, and brings a sense of confidence to me throughout her tutoring. She goes above and beyond at displaying the material in a digestible way and meets me at the level I'm at. I'm so glad to have met her through Superprof and would highly recommend :)

I had the pleasure of having Moriel as my college algebra TA, and I can't speak highly enough of her. From the first day of class, Moriel demonstrated an exceptional level of patience and enthusiasm that truly made a difference in my learning experience. She consistently took the time to ensure that each student understood the material, never hesitating to explain concepts. She genuinely cared about our progress and went above and beyond to support us. I’m grateful for her guidance throughout the course, and if you have the chance to work with her, you’ll be in excellent hands.
My son (10th grade student at LACES) has always been a bit apprehensive about math but since he started working with Moriel, I have seen such a positive change in his attitude and performance at school. Moriel has a tremendous ability to make complex concepts understandable and fun. She is patient, encouraging and knows how to motivate my son and push through challenges. My son’s confidence has grown tremendously, and most importantly he looks forward to his sessions with Moriel.
We are grateful to have such a dedicated, flexible, fun, and inspiring tutor.
I highly recommend Moriel to any parent looking to boost their child’s math skills and confidence.I had Moriel as my GSI for Math 96 during the summer bridge program at Berkeley, right before my freshman year. She was in charge of our pod of about 20 students, and honestly, she made the whole experience great. Moriel had this way of explaining things that just clicked - she made math easy to understand without making you feel dumb if you didn't get it right away. What I really appreciated was how she always told us there were no stupid questions. She kept encouraging everyone to speak up and participate, which made the class feel way more comfortable. Moriel was super friendly too, so it wasn't like talking to a stern professor or anything. She was patient with us and never made anyone feel bad for asking for help. You could tell she really knew her stuff and cared about us learning, which made her a teacher you could trust and rely on. Looking back, I'm really glad I had her as my GSI. She definitely helped make the transition to college math a lot smoother.
