About Ritchard

Hello, I’m Ritchard Ouma, a London-based full-time professional tutor and educational consultant with more than 20,000 hours of tutoring experience. I began tutoring while completing the International Baccalaureate at the American International School of Budapest, before moving to London to study Materials Science and Engineering with Business Management at Imperial College London. I continued tutoring throughout university and have now worked full-time in education for around ten years. I support students across GCSE, A Level and IB, with extensive experience in Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Maths, Environmental Systems and Societies, Psychology, Geography, Economics and other academic subjects. I also work with students on SAT/ACT preparation and UK/US university applications. Over the years I have supported students attending leading independent, grammar and international schools, as well as students targeting highly competitive universities in the UK and US. I also have extensive experience supporting students with ADHD, dyslexia and dyscalculia, and I understand that academic ability is not always reflected immediately in a student’s grades, confidence or organisation. One of the advantages of my broad academic background is that I can support students across different stages of their education. A student may initially come to me for Chemistry or Maths, then later need help with exam preparation, SATs or university applications. I can provide continuity throughout that process. Parents and students have described me as enthusiastic, patient, engaging and inspiring, and I take great pride in building strong, long-term relationships with the families I work with. I am also a father of four, so I understand the importance of patience, encouragement and clear communication with both students and parents. I look forward to hearing from you!

With proper guidance, there are no good or bad students. My lessons are built around understanding why a student is struggling and identifying what will make the biggest difference. Sometimes the issue is a gap in core knowledge. Sometimes the student understands the subject but is losing marks through exam technique, timing, organisation or confidence. In other cases, motivation and engagement have become the main barrier. I place a strong emphasis on exam technique. I teach students how to recognise what a question is really asking, understand where marks are awarded, structure answers effectively and develop methods they can rely on under pressure. My aim is not simply to cover content, but to help students turn what they know into results. Confidence is equally important. I have worked with many capable students who have begun to believe that they are simply “bad” at a subject. I try to challenge that mindset through clear explanations, achievable progress and genuine encouragement. Students often perform very differently once they begin to trust their own ability again. I also have extensive experience supporting students with ADHD, dyslexia and dyscalculia. I adapt sessions through clear structure, manageable steps, varied pacing, repetition where useful and alternative explanations when a conventional approach is not working. Lessons are highly individual and interactive. I take time to understand each student’s interests, personality and experience of school so that sessions remain engaging while still being focused and purposeful. Parents and students have described me as enthusiastic, patient, passionate and inspiring. My role is to provide expert academic guidance, strong encouragement and the structure students need to keep progressing. Ultimately, I want students to leave lessons feeling more capable, more confident and better equipped to succeed independently.
