About Miranda
I live in Far North QLD with my two dogs and my son who is studying Law.
To me, tutoring is about finding and filling learning gaps, but also about restoring confidence; people need be able to go out into the world feeling good about what they are achieving.
I have tutored and spent a lot of time with children with disabilities and behaviours, and home schooled my own child for most of his primary and secondary education.

Tutoring sessions should be fun and something students can look forward to. I like to plan sessions which a scaffolded as much as possible using their interests and passions. I hold a constructivist philosophy so we will be doing hour long, project and investigation based sessions. I also bring in cross curricular learning wherever possible, so there will often be elements of science, maths or history, geography, etc which are introduced to teach whatever English concept we are working on. This makes them feel confident in other subjects in their school life.
Some children come to tutoring because they are far behind , or because they have a disability. Most of these children feel disempowered and defeated. Sometimes the school system has let them down. My aim with these children is to
stimulate their thinking and really make it fun. I work with the family to provide a fun session for everyone and to provide suggestions for things to do in between sessions.
In every session, the student and I will set goals. After the session, we reflect on those goals, and I will also provide written feedback, to the parent or guardian. Setting goals, and completing feedback helps the student with confidence. We talk about what we learned and how confident they feel with that information. We also talk about where to next and talk about little tips to extend their learning.
In parent feedback, you will hear in detail about what we did in the session and I will provide URLS for resources that may be of assistance. You will also get an account of concentration, focus, behaviour etc.
