About Hannah
Hi, I'm Hannah. I moved to Japan in 2017 as an ALT through the JET Programme and fell in love with the Japanese language. I’m particularly interested in kanji, and I enjoy researching their etymologies and radicals. I taught myself Japanese from scratch and lots of trial and error, but it led me up to successfully passing the JLPT N2. I'm totally familiar with the steep learning curve!
After living in Niigata for five years, I obtained my teaching certification in the UK and began working at a world-renowned middle and high school. Currently, I teach Japanese up to the GCSE and IB Standard Level, making the material easy to understand.
My hobbies include video games, weightlifting, and hiking. I also do ikebana occasionally! I love nature, and my favourite birdsong is the Japanese bush warbler's.

I use a structured, communicative approach that balances grammar, vocabulary, and practical usage, with a focus on building confidence and real understanding, as well as diving deep into exam technique and what examiners are looking for.
Lessons are typically 1 hour. I have 8 years of teaching experience, including 3 years of experience teaching Japanese to GCSE to IB-level students. I have previously taught a range of ages, from nursery school children to adults, and am confident in my ability to adapt my lesson style to my individual learners.
