About Austin
Ever wonder why coding feels like learning a foreign language without a map? After teaching 431 students, I have realized that the hurdle is usually just a lack of context.
My 6 years of experience include a General Assembly bootcamp and 4 years as a software engineer, so I know exactly where the friction happens for adults starting from scratch or high schoolers aiming for computer science. I focus on project-based learning to keep things grounded in reality. We will cover Java, version control via Git, and the fundamentals of APIs and backend basics. It is quite simple really, once you strip away the jargon.

Most beginners get stuck because they cannot find the error in their own logic. I provide a direct path toward writing clean, efficient code by fixing those mental blocks immediately. Having spent 4 years as a software engineer, I show you how to structure your work like a professional. We use a GitHub repo set up to track each student's progress so we can see your growth across 8 different milestones.
My instruction style leverages the 6 years of experience I have in the industry to keep the focus on what actually works. You will soon have a functional portfolio that demonstrates your ability to build real systems.
