About Andrew

I have always been curious about the world around me. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology from Athabasca University in Alberta, and I recently completed a Master of Arts in Human Geography from York University in Toronto. In addition to anthropology and geography, I took elective courses in environmental studies, history, Indigenous studies, and French language. My university studies have allowed me to travel to Southeast Asia, where I have worked with local communities on social and environmental issues.

While I was a graduate student at York University, I worked as a teacher's assistant for a diverse class of students. I designed tutorials and assisted students with their assignments. In addition to my formal teaching experience, I have often helped friends with their homework, and I have also volunteered as a conversation partner for newcomers learning English. My students' feedback has emphasized my kindness, understanding, and ability to explain difficult topics.

About the lesson

I specialize in working with high school and college students to improve their reading comprehension, writing, and test preparation skills. I tutor a variety of social studies and social science subjects including anthropology, geography, and history.

My teaching philosophy, above all, emphasizes kindness, patience, and understanding. When a student struggles with a difficult concept, I have a knack for patiently explaining these concepts in lay person's terms. This helps students build their knowledge and develop confidence.

My teaching methodology is suited to one-on-one sessions or small groups where I can help students individually with their work. I review the lesson with students and go over concepts that they are struggling with. To help students remember difficult or abstract concepts, I use examples, visual models, and diagrams as memory aids. I also help students proofread and edit written assignments. I have a strong grasp of English grammar rules and a knack for explaining these rules in ways that students can understand.
