About Jacob
I am an experienced Geography and social-sciences tutor teaching students in the UK and internationally.
My academic background in Sociology, Politics and International Politics gives me a particularly strong perspective on human geography, development, inequality, political geography and global issues.
I currently teach Geography alongside Sociology and Politics through online tutoring organisations and have taught Geography in secondary and sixth-form settings.
I also teach US AP Human Geography, including political geography, sovereignty, boundaries, ethnicity, federalism and supranational organisations.
I enjoy helping students see the bigger picture behind geographical topics rather than simply memorising case studies. My lessons are conversational, visual and questioning-led, with a strong emphasis on applying knowledge to unfamiliar questions.

My Geography lessons are designed to make the subject feel connected rather than like a collection of unrelated case studies and processes.
I teach both human and physical Geography and help students understand how one idea leads to another: for example, how physical processes shape landscapes, how people respond to environmental hazards, or how political and economic decisions affect places.
For examination students, I combine subject knowledge with exam technique. We work with past questions, command words, case studies, maps, graphs and data, and I show students how to develop extended answers rather than simply listing facts.
I currently teach GCSE, A-Level and international Geography, including US AP Human Geography. My particular strengths include human geography, political geography, development, urban issues, globalisation, population, identity, borders and geopolitics.
Lessons are usually one hour and are adapted to the student's specification and individual areas of difficulty.
