About Riya
I am a trainee secondary school mathematics teacher, and I obtained a 1st class degree in Economics and Social Science from the University of Manchester in July 2022. I believe little steps are the best way to improve. By learning from mistakes, and trying again, students can build resilience, understand mathematical concepts more, and build their own confidence within the subject. I also create engaging and varied lesson plans, ranging from practice paper questions to writing out steps for specific types of methods, as well as mathematic games to consolidate learning. Learning is different for everyone, and this is something I consider strongly when teaching. I have ADHD and dyslexia, and adapted many of my own learning methods to best suit my learning style. I now apply this to my lessons, and aim to make students feel capable to succeed in the subject. Some students may benefit from thinking of practical examples, whereas others are more visual and prefer creative learning. This is something I will tailor depending on who I am tutoring. I am approachable and kind, and will support and challenge students. I will not pressurise students to find a solution, as I think this is counterproductive. It is more useful to take things step by step, and not to cause anxiety in the process. Anxiety and stress adds an extra layer of difficulty to exams and this is something that I believe can and should be avoided.

I have a motivational attitude and enjoy bringing a bright and fun energy to mathematics. I believe all students can gain the confidence to excel at mathematics, and that learning should be tailored to meet the needs of each individual student. accessible to all. I will support and push students to the best of their abilities and build their confidence with mathematical concepts, supporting them throughout the process. I have prior tutoring experience for GCSE mathematics, and have helped various students to gain their predicted grades. I also have previous experience as an SEND and Maths interventionist, and I am a trainee secondary school Mathematics teacher commencing in 2025.
