West Virginia University, BA in History and English grew up halfway between Boston and New York City in the foothills of the Berkshire Mountains. After chasing football dreams to West Virginia University, he decided to cross the Atlantic and focus on his studies. He has since completed two master’s degrees, one in classics at Trinity College Dublin and the other in history at the University of Cambridge.

I think the main question for your students is what kind of motivation they have to study English. If they are only learning it as requirement for a test or to enter university, you have quite an uphill battle since their motivation is only instrumental. It also depends upon their ages. Older students may feel that their English is "good enough" so they may see no need to study hard to progress.
