About Rachel
Hello! I'm Rachel! I'm a 3rd year teacher who began teaching right in the middle of the pandemic. I've always had a knack for teaching and I love everything that it has given me. I thrive on connections and relationship building right away, and I am creative and patient. I will help guide you through your struggles, and help you grow as a student. I know first hand the difficulty of common core math and the challenges students face as a result from the curriculum. I am a helper and listener, and I am good at what I do.
In my free time, I enjoy being outside and making the most of what the world has to offer. I also love to read and travel. I spend my summers working at a summer camp completely outdoors. Every opportunity to be around kids fills my heart.

I believe in using multiple strategies to help students learning. I use a variety of strategies in my classroom ranging from problem solving math problems to simply learning how to use a multiplication chart. Students are avid learners online, and I've discovered ways to promote their learning through various online resources and interactive activities. I also know that students learn best in a small environment with one on one learning. I have common core math experience, along with Elementary Language Arts, Reading, Social Studies and Science teaching experience. I value every child's education.
A typical lesson plan would begin by getting to know the student and figuring out what exactly they need support with, then proceeding to using strategies that are easy to remember and can be applied to hands-on instruction from afar. I work on problem solving techniques that can be applied further. I really focus on the basics in math before working my way up to the line. Generally, if a student is struggling with long division, it's because they don't know their multiples and it can lead to further frustration.
I currently teach 6th grade math in a Title 1 school, and I have prior experience in 2nd, 4th and 5th grade.
