About Karla
Karla received her Music Educator's license in Instrumental Music from William Jewell College in 2005. Instrumental Conducting, Secondary Music Methods, Instrumental Techniques, and Educational Psychology were some of the courses that prepared her to become a more knowledgeable teacher.
She started private teaching violin and viola lessons in 2002 at REW Band and Orchestra. From there she went to Northland Cathedral School of music in 2006 before starting her own studio in 2010.
Currently, Karla plays 4th chair viola with the St. Joseph Symphony and in the past has also performed for KC Civic Orchestra. She has also performed with Josh Groban, Michael Bublé, Trans-Siberian Orchestra, and Sarah Brightman.
Karla is also the Viola player with Crescendo Trio. They perform 30-35 weddings and corporate events every year. Karla keeps an in-home and downtown studio offering music lessons for children and adults of all ages from beginners to advanced students.

The methods I use for teaching primarily depend on the students' style of learning and the level that they are at musically. For beginning students I use a lot of visual and aural techniques and for more advanced students I build on what they already know and challenge them to go further. I am also familiar with the Suzuki method and pop music styles. For beginner students I use the method book "Essential Elements for Strings". Once all the basics have been learned we then move towards more variety of music books. I use "Essentials for Strings" for scales, Wohlfahrt Etude book for technique, and Suzuki books for solos.
