About Luke

I have been studying the piano for nearly 18 years and have just graduated from the University of Colorado Boulder with a BM in Piano Performance. I discovered my love for the instrument (and classical music in general) around the age of 14 through the works of Ludwig van Beethoven and Johannes Brahms, and I remain passionate about sharing their music with the world and fostering a unique appreciation of classical music within each of my students.

While classical piano is my greatest passion and the subject to which I have devoted the most time, I also have lots of experience playing keyboard with bands in live and studio settings, and have worked with artists to record albums from country to punk rock.

About the lesson

I am passionate about teaching all things piano, including a wide range of genres and styles, music theory, music history, and general music appreciation.

I have taught private, one-on-one lessons for over 10 years to students from 5 to 75 years old, and am always focused on providing the best experience to each student depending on their specific interests, practice availability, and skill level.

I tend to focus on teaching music theory not as its own subject but as a part of other music we may be working on. This helps the student begin to understand music theory and its functions through real-world musical experience. It is like learning a language - you can study grammar and vocabulary all you want, but the question is: can you speak it?
