About Jillian
As a dedicated educator with an MA in Spanish focused on literature and film studies from the University of Mississippi and a BA in English and Spanish from the University of Central Arkansas, I am passionate about fostering a supportive learning environment that empowers students to excel. With over ten years of tutoring experience, including a graduate assistantship and work at the Academic Excellence Center for student-athletes at UM, I have a proven track record of helping students achieve their academic goals, from getting an A to passing a CLEP or AP exam, from learning to read to scoring well on the ACT. My teaching philosophy centers on personalized, one-on-one sessions, where I adapt my methods to each student's unique learning style. Having taught Spanish 101, I find joy in making language learning engaging and accessible. Beyond tutoring, my background in film as a script supervisor and my travels in Latin America enrich my teaching perspective and cultural insights. I teach using the communicative method, and I try to give as close to an immersion experience as possible, since that is the best way to learn language, but I will also explain grammar concepts and any other (Spanish-related) questions in English. Most of my students have made very good grades!
