About Johan
I only started playing guitar when I was 18 years old. With lots of hours of self-study, YouTube clips and internet articles I taught myself to play the guitar pretty decently. I only received my first live guitar lesson a couple of months before I got accepted at the conservatory from guitarist and luthier Ad de Peffer.
Studies
During my study at the conservatory I studied under a number of guitarists like Marlon Titre, Johan Fostier, Goran Krivokapic, Gaelle Solal and Frank Lamm. During my self-taught years and years of study I learned exactly what to do and what not to do to become a good guitarist. I also immersed myself in all possible musical styles; a great aspect of the guitar is that it offers countless playing possibilities and therefor a very broad approach to music in general.
Current Activities
Currently I'm mostly focusing on classical world music, jazz, reggae and interdisciplinary projects with the guitar. Besides my solo projects I'm active with my Turkish/Arabic classical duo Safar, my European classical duo MadeInBerlin, a 'kleinkunst' (form of cabaret) ensemble and as a bass player in a local reggae band. I also work with choreographers and visual artists to create immersive theater experiences. Because of the countless possibilities that art, music and the guitar offer I will be satisfied for the rest of my life!

Do you want to learn how to play the guitar and have more fun with and understanding of music? Or are you already playing for some time and do you want to improve your skills? Whatever style you want to play and no matter your level or age; I'm excited to begin our lessons together.
I am Johan, a patient, educated and enthusiastic guitar teacher based in Tilburg. Your learning processes and musical goals will be central to our lessons. You'll get personal attention, lessons that fit your capabilities and a relaxed and stress-free atmosphere to work in.

If you're unsure which type of guitar of which style of music you want to play; no problem, I'll help you get started and give you tips to help you find the style and instrument that fits you best.
Modern Teaching Methods
In our lessons we'll use a wide variety of materials to help us along the way. You can think of traditional music notation and tablature, but also chord sheets for popular music, lead sheets for jazz and my own home made teaching recipes. You're very welcome to bring your own materials to the lessons so we can work from those. And if you prefer to work from a traditional method book; you're still in the right place.
Flexible Lesson Times
You can plan the lessons you buy whenever you want to; we'll just set a date and time when we're both available. If you find out you that can't make it; no problem, we'll just move the lesson to a different date and time. And if you prefer to keep a fixed time and day that can also be arranged. The first lesson or trial lesson is free, provided you want to buy one of the lesson packages afterwards. If not, the trial lesson costs 25 euros.
