About Lavinia
I am first and foremost a lover of literature, which I hope will get through to anyone struggling with an English grade, their teacher, or dislike for the subject.
But secondly, I am an academic and know the UK exam system inside out. I will be able to offer you tips, notes, step-by-step instructions on how to craft essays and better your analysis, and written examples I myself will provide. Having received the top grade in every single one of my subjects at both GCSE and A level alongside current study for an undergraduate degree, I am confident I can not only get you better marks, but also hopefully encourage an appreciation of literature as a whole.
Close enough to A levels that the techniques and methods remain at the forefront of my mind, yet currently studying a university level degree, I am uniquely situated to teach English to a high and compassionate standard.
I am also a sounding board for frustrations and difficulties understanding certain facets of English. We all gravitate towards different subjects; let me help you succeed in my chosen field.

I work in two stages: building a foundation for understanding how to analyse and write about literature first and then begin dissecting exam questions and past papers in order to apply those skills. This not only helps prepare students for exam scenarios and allows them to become familiar with time constraints and layouts, but also teaches them how to craft high-marking essays.
I am always guided by the student initially, to get a sense of how they work, process and think. When we start past paper questions and application, the work will become more structured.
I have enabled students to get As at A level and 7/8/9s at GCSE, but the outcome of my pupils' exams depends on their capability. I can boost a pupil by a grade or two, or three, if they are willing to work with me.
I do not typically exceed an hour per session, as this proves more efficient and beneficial for students and their focus.
