About Holly

Hi there! I’m Holly — a Registered Nurse with 18 years of experience and an EMT for 17 years. I’ve worked in fast-paced emergency departments, clinical/administrative settings, and everything in between — and now I use that real-world experience to help students learn with confidence.
I discovered my passion for educating others while mentoring new nurses and EMTs on the job. There’s nothing better than seeing a student finally “get it” — that moment when everything clicks! My goal is to make learning clear, stress-free, and actually enjoyable.
If you’re preparing for the Next-Gen NCLEX, studying for the NREMT, or just struggling to keep up with coursework, you’re not alone — and you can do this. I’m here to guide you step by step until it all makes sense..

I’m so excited to share my knowledge and experience with you! Over the past 18 years as a nurse and 17 years as an EMT, I’ve worked in a variety of clinical and emergency settings, gaining real-world insight that I now bring into every lesson. I’m certified in multiple specialties — including Trauma Care, Forensics, SANE-A/P Education, Stroke, Genetics, Epidemiology, Tuberculosis, and the OR — and I love using that experience to help students connect classroom learning to real-life practice.
Our first session is all about you — understanding your goals, learning style, and where you feel least confident. Together, we’ll pinpoint what’s holding you back, whether it’s a knowledge gap, misunderstanding, or test-taking struggles. From there, I’ll design a personalized lesson plan tailored to your exact needs — and this is where the magic happens!
My students don’t just memorize information — they learn how to think through questions, apply critical reasoning, and succeed on school exams, ATIs, and licensure tests like the NCLEX and NREMT. I’m here to guide you every step of the way — with patience, clarity, and 24/7 support when you need it. My goal is simple: to help you feel confident, capable, and ready to show what you truly know.
Let’s do this — your success starts here!

  • 1) When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

As a young child, I watched my mother thrive as an EKG technician in a hospital. She inspired a colleague in the Emergency Department to pursue medical school, and that encouragement led to her becoming an outstanding paramedic and eventually one of Mississippi's leading Emergency Medicine Providers. This same colleague, recognizing my mother's potential, urged her to return to school and fulfill her dream of becoming a Registered Nurse. Despite facing numerous challenges, my mother found strength in a supportive community that believed in her and opened doors to greater opportunities. With two children at home, she courageously decided to return to nursing school. I was right by her side during her studies, eagerly "helping" in any way I could. At just nine years old, I realized I wanted to follow in her footsteps and become a Registered Nurse, inspired by her unwavering dedication and resilience.
  • 2) Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

Teaching nursing is not just a profession for me; it's a calling that allows me to share vital knowledge that can save lives and empower future healthcare providers. I have a deep passion for trauma, neuro, and cardiac nursing. These areas present the most dynamic and challenging cases, and I find immense fulfillment in guiding students through the complexities of these specialties.

One of the topics that resonates with me is human trafficking and sexual assault across the lifespan. It's a critical issue that demands awareness and sensitivity in nursing practice. I love discussing the signs, the impact on individuals, and the importance of compassionate care, equipping my students with the tools they need to support vulnerable populations.

Another essential aspect of nursing I emphasize is the importance of proper documentation. This often overlooked skill is crucial in ensuring patient safety, continuity of care, and legal protection. I enjoy illustrating how effective documentation can make a significant difference in patient outcomes and the overall healthcare system.

While I find joy in all these subjects, I sometimes grapple with the more technical aspects of nursing that can feel less engaging for students. However, I strive to make all topics relevant and meaningful, fostering an environment where every discussion can inspire growth and understanding. Ultimately, my goal is to nurture confident, compassionate, and knowledgeable nurses who will make a profound impact in their communities.

While my passion lies in trauma, neuro, and cardiac nursing, I acknowledge that maternal and labor and delivery nursing plays an essential role in healthcare. However, I find that my enthusiasm doesn't quite align with this area. It's important to recognize that every nursing specialty has its own unique challenges and rewards, and while I may not connect as deeply with maternal and labor and delivery, I respect the incredible work that those in this field do.

I believe that every nurse contributes to the healthcare system in meaningful ways, and it's vital for students to explore various specialties to discover their own passions. By focusing on the areas that inspire me, I aim to ignite that same passion in my students, encouraging them to find their own paths in nursing, whether in maternal health or beyond. Embracing our preferences allows us to become more effective educators and caregivers, fostering a rich learning environment that celebrates both diversity and dedication within the nursing profession.
  • 3) Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

My role models have always been my mama and my sister, two incredible women who embody strength and sophistication. I admire them not just for their achievements, but for their unwavering commitment to nurturing the success of others as they pursue their dreams. They have been my guiding lights, showing me the importance of resilience, compassion, and support.

In addition to their influence, I had three instructors who left an indelible mark on my journey. They were among the most encouraging, intelligent, and sincere individuals I have ever encountered. Their passion for teaching and dedication to their students created an inspiring learning environment that fostered growth and confidence. They believed in my potential even when I doubted myself, and their genuine support made all the difference.

Together, these remarkable women-both in my family and in my education-have shaped who I am today, instilling in me the values of empathy, determination, and the importance of uplifting one another. Their legacies motivate me to carry forward their spirit of encouragement and to be a source of inspiration for others on their own paths to success.
  • 4) What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

Qualities that should be possessed to enrich a tutor's effectiveness include:

∙Understanding and Empathy: A good tutor recognizes that students can feel overwhelmed by their studies. Being empathetic helps create a supportive learning environment, where students feel comfortable expressing their challenges.

∙Flexibility and Accommodating: Every student learns differently and at their own pace. A flexible tutor can adapt their teaching style and schedule to meet the unique needs of each student, helping them to grasp difficult concepts more effectively.

∙Assessment of True Needs: Understanding a student's specific challenges and shortcomings allows tutors to tailor their approach. This personalized attention can address gaps in knowledge and build confidence.

∙Ability to Connect Concepts: A tutor who can help students see the connections between different topics or subjects aids in deeper understanding. This holistic approach can enhance a student's ability to apply knowledge in various contexts.

∙Strong Communication Skills: Effective communication is key. A tutor should be able to explain concepts clearly and in a way that resonates with the student, using language that is appropriate for their level of understanding.

∙Patience: Learning can be a slow process, and students may need repeated explanations or practice to grasp a concept. A patient tutor encourages persistence and resilience in their students.

∙Knowledgeable: A good tutor should have a strong understanding of the subject matter they are teaching. This expertise enables them to answer questions and provide deeper insights into the topic.

∙Encouraging and Motivational: A tutor who provides positive reinforcement and encouragement can boost a student's motivation and self-esteem, making them more willing to engage with the material.

∙Good Listening Skills: Actively listening to students' concerns and feedback helps tutors adjust their methods and support strategies to better suit individual needs.

∙Organizational Skills: A well-structured tutoring session with clear goals can help students stay focused and track their progress over time.

∙Passion for Teaching: A tutor who is genuinely passionate about teaching and helping others can inspire students to develop a love for learning and a desire to succeed.

By embodying these qualities, tutors can create a positive and effective learning atmosphere that fosters growth and understanding, ultimately helping students achieve their academic goals.
  • 5) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

One valuable anecdote I learned in nursing school was the importance of empathy and compassion in patient care. During my clinical rotations, I had a patient who was terminally ill and in a great deal of pain. Despite my best efforts to provide medical interventions, the patient's condition continued to deteriorate.

One day, I sat with the patient and simply held their hand, offering a listening ear and a comforting presence. I didn't have all the answers or solutions to their pain, but I learned that sometimes, the most meaningful care we can provide is our empathy and compassion.

Through this experience, I realized the profound impact that a kind word, a gentle touch, or simply being present can have on a patient's well-being. It taught me the importance of treating each patient as a whole person, not just a collection of symptoms or medical conditions, and the power of human connection in healing.

This anecdote has stayed with me throughout my nursing career, reminding me to always prioritize empathy, compassion, and patient-centered care in my practice.
  • 6) What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

As a nurse, one of the most challenging aspects of the job can be communicating difficult news to patients and their families. It can be emotionally taxing and overwhelming to have to explain to a patient's family that their loved one is not doing well or is worsening in health.

The difficulty lies in finding the right words to convey the seriousness of the situation while also providing comfort and support to the family members. It can be a delicate balance between being honest and transparent about the patient's condition and offering empathy and understanding to those who are experiencing distress and grief.

Navigating these conversations requires strong communication skills, empathy, and emotional intelligence. It is important to approach these discussions with sensitivity, clarity, and honesty, while also being prepared to offer support and resources to help the family cope with the news.

One way to approach these difficult conversations is to ensure that you have all the necessary information about the patient's condition before speaking with the family. This can help you answer any questions they may have and provide them with a clear understanding of the situation.

Additionally, it can be helpful to have a support system in place, such as a social worker or chaplain, who can provide additional emotional support to the family during this challenging time.

Overall, while communicating difficult news to patients' families can be one of the toughest challenges in nursing, it is also a crucial aspect of providing holistic and compassionate care to patients and their loved ones. It is a skill that takes time and practice to develop, but with experience and support, nurses can navigate these conversations with empathy and professionalism.
  • 7) Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

I find inspiration and passion in caring for trauma patients and cardiac patients, as well as educating and tutoring students. These aspects of my work bring me great joy and fulfillment. Additionally, my love for the legal field fuels my desire to practice healthcare law. I am eager to combine my passion for healthcare with my interest in the legal system to make a positive impact in the field of healthcare law.
  • 8) What makes you a Superprof?

As a Superprof and an amazing tutor, I believe my dedication to my students' success sets me apart. I strive to create a supportive and engaging learning environment where students feel motivated and empowered to reach their full potential. I tailor my teaching methods to suit each student's unique learning style and pace, ensuring that they grasp the material effectively.

I am patient, understanding, and approachable, making it easy for students to ask questions and seek clarification on challenging topics. I also provide constructive feedback and encouragement to help students build their confidence and improve their skills.

Furthermore, my passion for the subjects I teach, coupled with my commitment to continuous learning and professional development, allows me to stay current with the latest trends and advancements in the field.
