About Saran

I have been tutoring for over 30 years, supporting a range of children's needs from severely dyslexic difficulties to a general boosting of confidence and knowledge-building for public exams. I am presently doing further postgraduate work at IoE (UCL) in Dyslexia to develop my practice and professional skills as a a teacher and assessor for dyslexic children.
I develop a strong rapport with the children I teach to get to know their strengths in learning so as to help build up their weaker areas of ability. I bring a trust in each child's intelligence and innate desire to learn and aim to make the learning experience into something pleasurable, sustaining, and something that belongs to the student so they will maintain confidence in their interest and ability to learn. I take time getting to know each individual's learning needs and regularly provide feedback to their families which can be shared with school teachers if useful. I love sharing a range of language resources with children to ignite an interest in literacy and find those that best respond to their learning-style.
I have been undertaking formal educational assessment, providing valuable insight into the cognitive profile of dyslexic children, These are sensitive assessments and can contribute to a child being awarded extra time or a scribe for their exams. I hold an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate.
I am a member of PATOSS, the Dyslexia Guild and the British Psychological Association of Testers

My specialist tutoring in literacy and numeracy for dyslexic children encourages regaining a pleasure in language and learning, leading to a confidence boost and academic success. I provide specialist support for dyslexic students, including formal cognitive assessments. I also support dyscalculic and dyspraxic children. I can provide the necessary support for 11+ and 13+ Common Entrance exams. I teach general Primary subjects; Maths, English, Science and Humanities subjects to 14; English and Humanities to GCSE and A Level. I have a fabulous success rate, with dyslexic and non-dyslexic children achieving very highly in public exams - the average English GCSE grade being 'A' overall. I also can take groups of children for English Language, Literature and History classes, encouraging lively debate and essay practice.
I hold a Diploma in Education (Maria Montessori Training Organisation); BA (Hons) Social Anthropology (London School of Economics); MSc. Language, Neuroscience and Human Communication (University College London); Certificate of Competence in Educational Testing (Dyslexia Action); AMBDA Level 7 Dyslexia Teaching
- My fees are between £70 and £90 per hour, depending on the level of specialist preparation required.
I teach in children's homes, or from my own home in Redisham, near Beccles, Suffolk. I also teach in London two days a week. My hours are flexible and vary according to my present schedule of tutoring (please contact me directly) I work with children from aged 7 through to adults . I help prepare my students for? 11+ entrance exams; GCSEs and IGCSEs; A Levels
