About Cecilia
I am a highly qualified English language teacher with over 30 years of experience in classroom and online teaching. I have taught in secondary schools, higher education and language schools for speakers of other languages. I enjoy teaching and adapt my materials and methodology to meet the learners' needs and interests. I believe that it is important to motivate learners and to help them to become creative, analytical and independent.
Being a (I)GCSE English examiner (both Language and Literature) for 3 different boards means that I know what students need to do to improve, and I have an excellent track record of helping students exceed their expected grades. I also have considerable experience in teaching English to speakers of other languages of all ages and have prepared students for IELTS and other English language exams such as Cambridge English qualifications (Preliminary, First, Advanced and Proficiency.) I have a B.A. Hons in English Literature and a Masters in Applied Linguistics, and have taught most aspects of the English language over the years - grammar, vocabulary, essay writing, creative writing, text analysis, pronunciation - to A' Level English Language students and to international students at universities in the UK and Italy.
I I am also a fluent and accurate speaker of Italian, having lived and worked in Italy for a number of years, and I have taught beginner and intermediate Italian to adults.

Since the pandemic, most of my teaching has been online, and although I enjoy some face-to-face teaching, online teaching offers a number of advantages when teaching Reading and Writing. I usually use Teams, although other platforms are possible (Zoom , Tencent/Voov for Chinese students), and for writing and annotating texts, I use Google Drive. This is excellent for working simultaneously on a document. I mark any set written work before lessons so that we can focus on the feedback and teaching during the lesson.
