About Laura
Before 2024, I taught for eight years in two top-performing London schools. I taught English at KS3, GCSE and A Level for three years at an Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ secondary school in Putney, and then at KS2 for five years at an independent primary school in South Kensington. This school prepared students for top London entrance exams, so I understand the desire to optimise a child’s best chances of success at this stage. I also have a good understanding of how to support neurodivergent children with SEN, having taught English for one year at a specialist school.
My teaching is founded on a strong academic background, with an MA (Distinction) and a 1st Class BA, both in English, as well as a PGCE in Secondary English. I am also CELTA-qualified, and use this training to help learners whose first language is not English.
I aim to boost all my students’ confidence, and to leave them feeling that English is something they can ‘do’. I believe learning English should be enjoyable, and through interactive and motivating sessions, I hope to transmit that enjoyment through my own passion for learning.

I tutor 7+, 8+, 11+ and 13+ exams, in English and Verbal Reasoning, and I offer general KS2/KS3 English tuition and GCSE English Language prep (all exam boards).
I have several ways I achieve outcomes for my students. I teach them strategies for tackling writing tasks, shortcuts for uplevelling creative writing, and game-changing vocabulary-strengthening exercises. They will have exposure to high-level reading materials, and through structured questioning they will adopt new reading patterns and ways of responding that will earn marks. We will refine weak answers and look at what stronger ones look like, so that they know exactly what to aim for. I will also ensure they have a thorough understanding of grammar and that their written work becomes more accurate. This is all done through a supportive approach that is designed to boost confidence as well as knowledge.
Sessions are 50 minutes, and are all online.
