About Deren
I taught history at a private school in Brooklyn, NY for two years. I am now a graduate student in history at the New School for Social Research and applying to PhD programs. I have taught 120 students over the course of the past two years. I have also helped 60 8th graders develop research essays based on a topic that they chose. My students have appreciated working with one-on-one with me on essay-writing and I have been happy to see major improvements to their essays over time.

I believe that developing writing skills is essential to success in this day and age. Not only in high school and college, but being able to communicate effectively is also often essential for any job you might want to get after graduating. I am comfortable working with middle and high school students as well as college students and adults who are looking to improve their writing. I am a fairly flexible tutor who takes time to understand her students' needs and ways of learning. Let's figure this out together!
