Classroom teachers cannot always provide the direct support that someone needs, when they need it. That is why tutors exist!
The stress and struggles from school are your own private business. My job is to help you through that struggle and to see you succeed. I will expect you to engage and do your work, but I know we all have limits.
Sometimes our brains get tired, we literally cannot focus or think. If that happens? Flexibility is key.
I understand that anxiety and frustration can be real blocks to learning, and that means schedule changes or modifications to a lesson are OK to ask for.
Let's try different approaches to the same problem, and try at different times. Unlike regular school days, tutoring is not set on a rigid schedule. That is great because we can focus on your growth, at your pace!

I learned in New Mexico that rigor is important to build perseverance. Lessons need to have enough content to challenge and engage a student through completion, with realistic goals.
I follow the method of no opt-out. No opt-out means that "I don't know" is only the beginning of learning, or it is the moment that a person stops trying. My goal is to encourage people to never give up! Every great journey is made of many small steps, we just need to find the next step to take.
I follow the national guidelines for K-12 curriculum in Common Core Math and Next Generation Science standards, with the aim of identifying areas for improvement to meet assessment benchmarks.
Math can be learned by repetition, but also in project applications (scientific data). Following the engineering practices for problem solving, a high level of cognitive reasoning is possible.
Top this all with an active management approach, you will be guided to identify your personal incentives for achievement and to evaluate the learning process for how well it meets that goal.
Math lessons are typically 45-50 minutes, using an introductory concept, followed by practice, discourse, and then summarizing. Lessons may be adapted to allow for additional practice depending on outcomes and progress, following a hierarchy that builds from basic towards advanced skills.
Science lessons are typically multiple-days and project focused. Given a phenomenon to inspire inquiry, the learner develops a unique experimental setup for data collection, followed by an evaluation of results, and report on conclusions. Projects can be related to Earth and Space, Physical, or Life sciences.
