To help kids explore and express their emotions through colors and shapes, fostering creativity, self-expression, and emotional awareness in a fun and supportive way.
Materials Needed:
Crayons, colored pencils, or markers
White paper
Optional: stickers or stamps for added decoration
Lesson Outline:
Introduction to Colors & Feelings
Begin by talking about how colors can represent different feelings (e.g., blue for calm, red for excitement, yellow for happiness). Ask the kids how each color makes them feel.
Drawing Emotions with Colors
Encourage kids to think of a recent feeling they had—happy, excited, sad, etc. Ask them to choose colors that match that feeling and start creating shapes or patterns on their paper.
Adding Shapes to Show Emotions
Guide kids in using shapes to add to their picture (e.g., soft clouds for calm, zig-zags for excitement). Remind them that there’s no wrong way to create—it’s all about how they feel!
Show & Tell
Give each child a chance to share their drawing, if they feel comfortable, and talk about the colors and shapes they chose. This helps them connect with others and understand different ways of expressing emotions.
Art is a special way to show how we feel, and every drawing is unique and important.
