I joined Concordian International School in 2019, after a long career in education in the USA, Belgium, and Latvia, and Elizabeth was one of the first fellow teachers I met here. Since then, we have worked together closely and collaborated on a daily basis in the ELS Department (English Language Support) during the year we overlapped here. We have continued to stay in touch, and I have been consistently impressed with Elizabeth’s deep understanding of theory and practice in English Language Acquisition and Linguistics work with students. She is compassionate and effective as an educator.
In addition to her teaching skills, Elizabeth has shown an unusually strong affinity for both literature and nonfiction books in our conversations. We often discuss books we are reading for pleasure as well as the ones we are using in the classroom. Elizabeth is clearly an avid reader, and I have come to cherish her insights into both teaching materials and deeper themes during our discussions. If she is strongly recommending a book, I know it is a worthy read that I want to add to my list. That kind of passion for the written word is a fine testament to the kind of educator Elizabeth is, and it can’t help but come across to young people when an instructor has a deep love for their subject matter. That makes a big difference with students.
Elizabeth is also dependably professional and always prepared for class. She arrives on time and ready to go, which is an important habit as well as being representative of an overall positive attitude to her work. Though we all struggle with a lack of sleep sometimes or the stresses of the job, we know we can count on Elizabeth to be a reliable colleague who makes a strong contribution to the team.
