About Giusi
My name is Giusi and I am a native speaker of Italian and a highly qualified and experienced Italian/English teacher (ITA Yr 7-12, VIT registered). I have taught Italian in secondary schools (from Yr 7 to Yr 12) in Victoria for the past 15 years. I have extensive experience teaching Year 12 Italian (both past and current Study Design) and I have worked as a VCAA examiner for both the oral and written Italian examinations. I have tutored young and adult learners of Italian and English for many years now both in Italy and Australia, including tertiary education. I am also a qualified Literacy Tutor, Instructional Coach, and CLIL (Italian/Humanities) teacher, which reflects an additional and distinctive set of skills and knowledge I bring to my tutoring lessons.
I am a passionate, friendly, and enthusiastic educator. I have a genuine love for teaching and learning languages (I can also speak some Spanish, French, German and the dialect of my region - so I am very aware of the challenges of learning another language, but also of tricks that make it easier and fun to learn). I take pride in teaching my native language and culture as I find joy in seeing students' progress and growth as they connect with anything Italian and become competent and passionate independent users.
My students' success inspires me to keep abreast of new teaching strategies so that I can offer the most rewarding and enjoyable learning experience.

I use a variety of up-to-date teaching and learning strategies that respond to your learning goals and interests. They include diagnostic assessment, scaffolded learning, modelling of tasks, activities to build your strength in the 5 macro-skills of reading, writing, listening, speaking, and viewing in Italian; activities to practice and retain vocab knowledge and reinforce grammar; and constructive feedback for further improvement.
Each lesson can range from 60 to 90 minutes. Once you and I have identified the learning goal and needs and the areas of improvement, a variety of activities will be completed depending on what stage and phase of learning we are in. I use a variety of worksheets and engaging resources covering both language and culture knowledge, as well as materials of study that you will bring in when you require to engage with them as part of your school/university.
Students find my methods effective as they can rely on clear explanations, scaffolded learning activities, appropriate learning materials, and constructive and actionable feedback. They enjoy my friendly, fun, supportive, and caring nature and they feel safe and comfortable asking questions or further clarifications at all times during the lesson.

Perfect! I commenced classes with Giusi about 1 year ago, and it was my best investment in 2025.
Being an Australian born Italian, my understanding of the language (by virtue of hearing it in the household) always exceeded my ability to communicate, having never formally learnt how to speak. I have found Giusi's teaching style to be the perfect balance of structured and flexible - tailored to my specific needs, but with a logical direction of progression. I also love that she provides ample resources to practice that she creates herself.
Notwithstanding her competencies as a teacher, I found that Giusi's genuine passion for the language, and warmth as a person, really separates her from previous tutors I have had.
